Nothing New

Well there is nothing new to say. I will actually be sad when we don't have any new steps left. I am not sure if I will keep up on this blog after the 20 things are over. If I do I think that I will try to get back to my original plan and talk about my Docs. It would also please my mom if I got all of my docs out of her house. Not that I have any room in my apartment for them but I am sure that I could find a place.

Screen Capture

When I was reading Patrick's library blog I was wondering how he got those screen shots and now I know. Well not that I used Faststone for anything important but I did capture I screen shot of Jonathan Papelbon with an empty Bud Light beer case on his head. I have been looking for this video for weeks know and I finally found it so here is the picture:

I am surprised that will all of the crazy thinks my husband has done I have never seen him with an empty beer case on his head. I did have a friend at Bates who did this except his was Molson. So we started to call him"Molson Man" I actually think that he might have even gone on his bike to get more beer with it on his head, I surprised that he didn't get picked up for OUI. Well I really don't have too much more to say but that I am really glad that I know how to use this now.

New Movie

Well I tried to do a new movie, all I am doing right now is wasting time while they send me an email. I tried to do one from home but for some reason I was having trouble uploading my photos, so I burned some to a disc so I could do it here at work. I also brought a cd to use for music. The song that I really wanted was "These are the Days" by 10, 000 Maniacs but I grabbed the wrong cd. So I had to make due with what I had. Other than that there is really not much to say. Ok so now I have a new movie which I like better seeing that I didn't have to have pictures of my doc martens in them.

MySpace

Well I admit that I do have a MySpace account, I got it about a year ago. I was told that I would soon become addicted and be checking it a million times a day. This in fact has not happened, I have not even pimped out my profile, I do however have a song, which maybe I will change soon seeing that I cannot even remember what song it is. It is useful for getting in touch with my friends that I know are on it constantly, but other than that, that is about it. I guess that I really don't care that much about other people, I know that makes me anti-social but that is my nature.

Podcasting

Well I like many people do not like the sound of my voice, so I don't think that I will do an actual podcast. But I definitely like the idea of them seeing that I subscribe to a few through iTunes. Most of the ones I want to hear are things I miss on a regular basis on NPR, like "This American Life" and "Car Talk". I have always wished that I had a car problem that no one else could solve so I could call in to Car Talk. Those guys crack me up. Actually now that I think about it I should have called this spring when I was having that mysterious smell. OK back to the podcasting topic. My husband has done a podcast for one of his education classes and I think that he has helped his kids at school do them. The first one that I saw of Danny's was cool, it was a video podcast (He actually a computer that doesn't suck, unlike the computers here), that he did on his macbook. I guess if there was some topic that I was fanatic about and I thought people could use the info I might consider doing a podcast, but until then I will leave it to the professionals.

Nothing to Say

Well I really don't have anything to say today. People went home sick, Barbara still does not sound that great. I really hope that I don't catch it. Today for some reason I can't even get on to the BPL wiki. I also had to do everything today in the circulation office since the computer down stairs seems to have a virus and won't let you go to any different websites. I tried to log on to the other computer but that is slower than molasses on a cold day. I think that it would be quicker to chisel what I want to say in granite, rather than use that computer. I am really just blabbering on right now so I will stop.

COOOOOL!!! IT WORKED.

That is all that needs to be said

My Muvee Mix

Well I think that I did it alright but it keeps saying that my movie will be coming soon. So I don't know what that means. It probably won't be a great video seeing that all I had was my pictures on my myspace and the pictures of my docs on by blog. So needless to say there really is no theme to my move which is why I called it my random pictures. I am hoping that before my time is up today I have the link so that I can post it on my blog. I think that it would be really cool to do from home where I actually have pictures on my computer, or use my digital camera to take some movies. That way I could also use my own music. But the link just came through on my email so now I can see it. So now lets see if I can embed this into my blog.

You Tube

Well to be truthfully I have never really thought that You Tube would have anything on the site that would have any relevance to my life. It always seemed to me that many of the people who are posting videos must have more free time than I do. But I actually did find some useful items. Like if I wanted to see all of the speakers from the Bates College 2007 commencement ceremony I could watch them. Not that I would but you never know. I do have to say that it looks like some of the other websites that Patrick mentioned seem to be a little more useful like 5min. It looks like you could really learn stuff from these videos. I do have to say that I did check out Pandora and it's really cool. Most of the songs that came up when I said I wanted songs like Liz Phair I really liked and some of the artists I had not heard before. Well I don't really have much to say. If I could post on the staff's wiki site I would but Patrick has not added me as a writer yet so, I will let him know so maybe I could do that next time.

Yelp is a real Help!

Yes I know that was a corny title for today's blog but what are ya gonna do. So I checked this site out and it is really cool. Most of the review sites I have seen are just about restaurants or hotels. But at this site there is everything, including shopping and people seem to review anything including the local IGA. Which I find really funny. I can definitely see my self using this the next time I go on vacation.

Zoho

Well for what ever reason when I tried to set up a Zoho account it kept saying that my email id was invalid. So I was not able to really check it out but from the way that Patrick describes it does sound really useful. I think that I probably would have used it quite a bit when I was in college. That way I wouldn't have to worry about having anything to save the document with. I also think that it could be really useful with group projects as well. I still want to check it out so I may try to get an account with a differnt machine.

WIKI WIKI WIKI

I have to say that I had never really explored wikipedia before. And I guess that it can be a helpful tool. I will admit that during the early 80's I was a Duran Duran fan, so I did a search and found out that there was way more information than I expected. I also found it funny how some people editorialized like this for example : "John Taylor and Nick Rhodes were very happy people." How does this person know that not only they were happy but VERY happy. So I can definitely see where problems could arise with having everyone in the world being able to add information. Just because they truly believed some data to be true doesn't mean that it is true. I think I saw a story where a teacher purposely edited a wikipedia entry with false information to see how many of his students referenced the fake fact. I think that he used this as a lesson in checking the validity of research information. So I think that wikis have there place in society and can be useful tools.

The Future Of Libraries

I do see libraries changing in the future with our society becoming more and more dependant on technology. But in many ways I'm not sure if everything is a good thing. I see more and more kids coming in and have no clue how to find books here in the library. Or they question why they need to have a journal article, or a book to complete their research paper. They seem to think that all of the information that they need is on the web. But one critical skill that I think that many of them are missing is how to analyze if the information given by the website is truly valid.

But in many instances I do see technology helping libraries in the future. I think that it is more important than ever for us to stay atop emerging technologies. Which is why I am really enjoying do the 20 things. Many of the things we have explored I had never heard about.

Technorati, Rollyo, Web 2.0, Library 2.0

Well I do have to say that I agree with many people on Technorati, I guess if I am going to read blogs it is going to be people I know and not random people that i could care less about. And I really don't get the point of Rollyo at all. It just seems as though a person might be limiting themselves to perhaps getting information that might not agree with their point of view. I do have to say that I do belong to a Web 2.0 community (MySpace). I don't really do much with it though. I have Friends who seem to post all kinds of bulletin and comments all the time, but to me it seems as though they are not really living life except through the computer.

Del.icio.us

I can see where this could have been really helpful when I was in college doing research on a public computer. This way I could have saved all of the website that I wanted to this site instead of copy and pasting the urls in an email and mailing to my self. In this instance I can see where this would have been a big help.

LibraryThing!

Was a little skeptical about the whole thing at first but I actually thought that it was really quite neat. Needless to say I don't necessarily own all of these books, but picked some of my favorite books. It is really cool to see how those books rank and what other people say about them. One of my favorite books only 15 other people own, which is a shame because it is a really funny book. But there are all kinds of things you can also do on this site.

Randon Generators are Super Cool!!

For those of you who don't know my all time favorite movie is the "Big Lebowski" so I just had to check out the quote generator from that movie. Most of my favorite quotes I could not post here due to the fact that they are laced with obscenities. But here is one that I could post:

Donny: Are these the Nazis, Walter?
Walter: They're nihilists, Donny, nothing to be afraid of.

This RSS Stuff is kinda cool!

With the RSS feed I can actually check out all kinds of new and stuff without people seeing how much of a big dork I am.

My Favorite Docs

Except for the first two pairs and the last pair of boots I don't have any idea of when i bought any of the others. To be truthful I have too many pairs to remember, I think I have about twenty maybe. But these multicolored glitter boots are perhaps my favorite. I call them my party docs because I could wear them to any kind of party. Be it fancy or not.

My Trading Card

Well I couldn't really think of anything to put on my trading card execpt for my cat Pumpkin. The reason that he looks so out of it is that I had cooked a turkey that day and everyone had been sneaking him bits of turkey. Also I had given him some of the really good catnip that I had just gotten at the Common Ground Fair. So with all of his senses overloaded he pretty much passed out.

My Second Pair of Boots

Well my second pair of boots are well traveled mainly because they were purchased in Sienna Italy. They cost me 150,000 lira which was about $100 american. I am going to try and find a picture of them online but I have never seen an other pair the same color. They are poppy red. I love these boots even though I don't wear them very often, I just don't want to wear them out because I don't think that I would ever find another pair exactly like them.

What My Blog Is Going To Be About

As I was trying think about I was going write in my blod the only thing that came to mind was my love of shoes and especially my Doc Marten boots. Having gone to college in the age of grunge, Doc Martens and flannel was mandatory piece of your wardrobe. So I got my first pair for christmas 1993. This was just the start of my large collection of Docs. I even got married in a pair of pearly white ones. I am hoping over the next few weeks to share with all of you some of my favorite pairs of shoes and boots and who knows you all may find out something about me that you didn't know.
